The Cure Parkinson’s Trust is a patient led charity that funds research which will have an impact on the lives of people with Parkinson’s, with the hope of an eventual cure for the condition. The Cure Parkinson’s Trust was founded in 2005 with the clear goal of finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease by investing in under resourced and under funded projects that offer a real hope of a cure in the future. Its primary role is identifying, funding and evaluating research projects, as well as hosting scientific forums to bring together relevant scientists within the field, to discuss key areas of research and technology.
The Trust’s fundraising arm is called ‘Movers and Shakers’, a name adopted by the co-founders.

The LSVT® Foundation is a non-profit 501c3 organization instituted in 1997 and dedicated to improving communication in individuals with neurological disorders, with a specialty in Parkinson disease.
The mission of the LSVT Foundation is to insure that speech treatment has a prominent role in the care of patients with Parkinson disease and other neural conditions. In speech treatment, unlike drug or surgical treatments, the locus of control belongs to the patient. Thus, positive speech treatment effects carry the added benefit of improved self-confidence and some measure of control over a significant symptom of Parkinson disease.
The LSVT® Foundation operates on funds generated from LSVT® Training and Certification Workshops and donations. Ninety percent of our efforts are on a volunteer basis.

Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit (BCTU)
The PD MED Study is a large, simple, "real-life" trial that aims to determine much more reliably which class of drugs provides the most effective control, with the fewest side-effects, for both early and later Parkinson's disease.
Patients with early Parkinson's are randomised between DA, MAOBI and LD alone, with the option to omit either the MAOBI or LD alone arm. Those with later Parkinson's disease are randomised between COMTI, DA and MAOBI, with the option to omit either the DA or the MAOBI arm. The main outcome measure is patient-rated quality of life, using the PDQ-39 scale, which assesses all aspects of the patient’s life, and is sensitive to changes considered important to patients but not identified by clinical ratings.
The study is funded by a grant from the NHS Health Technology Assessment Programme and is supported by the European Parkinson's Disease Association (EPDA), the Parkinson's Disease Society (PDS) and the Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist Association (PDNSA).
