Frequently asked question (FAQ)

Is it true that ‘pure’ Parkinson’s is rare and that most people with Parkinson’s also have other conditions as well?

Yes, this is an inevitable consequence of the fact that Parkinson’s mainly affects people over 60. The older you are when you get Parkinson’s, the more likely you are to already have other medical conditions as well. After your diagnosis, you will not be immune from getting other illnesses, so every symptom you have should not be blamed on your Parkinson’s. It can be quite difficult to sort out the overlapping symptoms but anything new should be discussed with your doctor and properly investigated. Problems with eyesight, bladder, swallowing or confusion can all be caused by Parkinson’s, but they can also be caused by other things for which there are specific, effective treatments.
