Complementary therapy & Parkinson's: Acupuncture

What is acupuncture?

A form of traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture involves the insertion of ultra-fine metal needles into carefully chosen points on the body.  It is commonly used to reduce pain, relieve common ailments and generally promote good health.

The needles release blockages in the body’s energy flow (Chi).  Acupuncturists believe that blockages can be caused by a number of physical and emotional factors (such as anxiety and stress, poor nutrition, weather conditions, infections, poisons or trauma) and result in ill health and imbalances.  Stimulating the acupuncture points with special needles will release these blockages, restore balance and trigger healing.

Did you know?

Whilst acupuncture has been practiced in the UK for over 50 years, the therapy is actually over 2,000 years and originally used stone needles!

The acupuncture needles most commonly used today are approximately the same diameter as a medium thickness guitar string.
