Complementary therapy and Parkinson's: Aromatherapy

Aromatherapy

What is aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is an ancient practice that uses essential oils (essences from aromatic plants) to improve physical and emotional wellbeing.  Each essential oil has distinctive therapeutic properties that can improve certain health conditions and prevent disease.  Used alongside other complementary or more orthodox remedies, aromatherapy can be both healing and uplifting.

As with many complementary treatments, aromatherapy is an holistic treatment, which focuses on healing the whole person - physically and mentally - rather than concentrating on the treatment of specific symptoms. Wherever possible the root cause of the problem will be sought, the end result being the treatment of the symptoms whilst also promoting a general feeling of wellbeing.

Did you know?

Although essential oils have been used in fragrances, food and medicine for thousands of years, the term ‘aromatherapie’ was first coined just 80 years ago by the French chemist, René-Maurice Gattefossé.
