Whilst we are not aware of any research looking specifically at homeopathy and Parkinson’s, there is evidence that some of the symptoms can be treated successfully using homeopathy.
Some medical practitioners are concerned that this is little more than the placebo effect, but preliminary evidence indicates that the homeopathic remedy ‘Cuprum’ can help ease cramps (often associated with Parkinson’s), whilst other research has shown that homeopathy can be effective for conditions such as chronic fatigue and depression (although evidence is so far inconclusive).
Several other homeopathic remedies are also suggested for Parkinson’s including:
- argentum nitricum – for ataxia (loss of muscle co-ordination), trembling, awkwardness
- causticum – for restless legs
- mercurius vivus – for easing Parkinson’s that is worse at night, and especially for panic attacks
- zincum metallicum – for restlessness and depression.
It is important to note, these are just some examples; a qualified homeopath would be able to advise each individual according to their own situation and symptoms. There are many different homeopathic remedies available to treat the same symptoms, and as each person responds to an illness in a different way, a homeopath will take care in matching particular symptoms and remedies to each individual. Unlike conventional medicine, one remedy does not fit all.
Homeopathy can be used to treat a wide range of complaints so can be helpful in relieving the stresses and strains that may be felt by a carer.
