Complementary therapy & Parkinson's: Reflexology

Reflexology

What is reflexology?

Reflexology is based on the principle that the anatomy of the body is reflected in miniature on reflex zones on the feet (and also on the hands, although less defined), and that by using specific techniques of holds and pressures on these reflex zones, healing can be initiated and accelerated in the corresponding area of the body.

Reflexologists believe that the body is divided into ten energy zones running the entire length of the body, and that these may become blocked by congestion, disease or disorder.  The trained hands of a reflexologist can detect tiny deposits of crystals and imbalances in the body, and by working the reflex points on patient’s feet (or hands) they can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy (or ‘Chi ’) to prompt healing.

Did you know?

Reflexology has its roots in the ancient civilisations – Egypt, China, Primitive Africa and the native Indian tribes of America.

In the 1930s, Eunice Ingham, an American physiotherapist, coined the term 'reflexology’ and was the first to map the appropriate reflex points on the hands and feet.Jenny Eveleigh, Reflexologist, Sevenoaks, UK
