How can it help people with Parkinson’s and their family / carer?

Reiki can be used to treat all kinds of conditions and illnesses and many believe that it can trigger feelings of wellbeing, calm and a sense of being in control - which is ideal for both the patient and carer. Its healing energy affects mind, body and soul:

  • mind - Reiki calms the mind and relieves stress, harmonising and balancing your emotional state
  • body - Reiki energy helps to nourish and heal damaged tissue and encourages the body’s natural healing processes
  • soul - Reiki channels ‘life force energy’ and engages with the soul, gently nourishing and healing deep within.

Reiki can be particularly useful in treating Parkinson’s:

  • Reiki energy can be channelled to the part of the brain that regulates dopamine levels
  • the function of the blood-brain barrier can be improved so that Parkinson’s medication can be delivered more efficiently to the brain
  • the body’s vitality and natural healing processes can be boosted by channelling energy into the organs affected by Parkinson’s medications.

Other benefits may include:

  • deep relaxation
  • release of any energy blockages
  • detoxification of your system
  • revived vitality and increased vibrancy and zest for life.

Reiki may not treat all your symptoms but, as a method of channelling positive energy, it can be a good way to combat feelings of negativity. This, in turn, could help with the treatment of depression.

Did you know?

Modern Reiki is said to have started with Dr Mikao Usui in the late 1800s. A Japanese scholar and teacher, Usui 'rediscovered' Reiki from old Sanskrit writings about Buddha’s own practices. Usui developed the healing technique through his own meditation experiences.
