Daily living

Parkinson’s can affect the way you carry out a broad range of everyday activities, from working and driving, to simply eating and brushing your teeth. But by embracing some changes in your approach to activities, you can maintain independence and continue many of your usual routines. As American author Sidney Dorros puts it, you must adopt a strategy of "Accommodation without Surrender" 1.

Accepting lifestyle adaptations and focusing on what you can do, will enable you to continue to complete everyday activities and enhance your enjoyment and quality of life.

Did you know?

According to the UK Office for National Statistics’ The Time Use Survey 2005 2 , people in Britain spent an average of 142 minutes per day on housework - people with Parkinson’s might spend a little longer, but it is possible to continue doing it (unfortunately!).
