Other techniques for managing Parkinson's

This section provides information on a number of other techniques for managing Parkinson's that some people have found helpful. Given the nature of modern communication technology, such techniques are now more widespread but not all have been scientifically evaluated.

It is therefore very important from an individual patient perspective to check that there is evidence to support the effectiveness of a particular technique and this evidence should be based on sound research rather than on anecdotal comments.  Each person will need to assess the evidence for a particular technique and then decide what is right for them.

Whatever treatment you pursue, you need to ensure that you see a practitioner who is professionally trained and accredited. It is always helpful to try to find one who has some experience of treating people with Parkinson’s or care of the elderly.

Did you know?

Nicholas Culpepper was an English botanist and herbalist, which at the time meant he was also considered as a doctor.  Although he died at the early age of 38 he left a great legacy through his cataloging of hundreds of medicinal herbs.  He also wrote or translated 79 books, notably 'The English Physician' (1652) and 'The Complete Herbal' (1653).
