What is bradykinesia?
The word bradykinesia comes from the Greek words ‘brady’ and ‘kinesia’ meaning ‘slow movement’ and was first used by Dr James Parkinson to describe one of the three main features of Parkinson’s (the other two being tremor and rigidity). Bradykinesia may be present in a number of movement disorders, such as Huntington’s disease, as well as in Parkinson’s and describes a slowness in the execution, rather than initiation, of movement.
