Depression and Parkinson's: Research papers
Nonmotor manifestations of Parkinson's disease
In addition, a number of nonmotor manifestations can precede the onset of motor symptoms in PD and can be used as screening tools allowing for early disease identification and for trials of possible disease-modifying interventions. This article reviews depression, sleep, and autonomic dysfunction in PD.

Role of serotonergic 1A receptor dysfunction in depression associated with Parkinson's disease
The present imaging study suggests that abnormalities in serotonin 1A receptor neurotransmission in the limbic system may be involved in the neural mechanisms underlying depression in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Changes in cognitive-emotional and physiological symptoms of depression following STN-DBS for the treatment of Parkinson's
Preliminary results suggest that the motor improvement often observed in patients with PD following bilateral STN-DBS may be partially offset by an increase in affective-cognitive symptoms of depression.

Psychosis associated to Parkinson's disease in the early stages: relevance of cognitive decline and depression
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of psychosis associated with Parkinson's disease (PSY-PD) in its early stages, its incidence over a 24 month follow-up period and the association with motor and non-motor clinical features.

Depression and care-dependency in Parkinson's disease: Results from a nationwide study of 1449 outpatients
Older age, longer duration and increased severity of PD contribute to care-dependency in patients with untreated depression. Treatment of depression is associated with lower rates of care-dependency.

Disease-related and genetic correlates of psychotic symptoms in Parkinson's disease
The study demonstrated an association with depression and duration of disease, both of which were inconsistently related in previous studies, and confirmed the association with age, cognitive dysfunction, and sleep disorders.
