Rewrite Tomorrow is dedicated to people with advancing Parkinson's disease.
Filling the perceived information gap.
Providing healthcare professionals, who are non Parkinson's specialists, with information and 'tools at your fingertips' to enhance the quality of life of people living with Parkinson's.
Providing an accurate and up-to-date resource for people seeking information on Parkinson's disease management and management options, particularly when the symptoms become increasingly resistant to medication.

Parkinson's medication

Medication is a fundamental part of Parkinson’s treatment for many people. The several different types that are available to control the symptoms are discussed here, together with possible interactions with other medications and how to manage your medication when you are admitted to hospital.

Surgical treatments

Medication is a fundamental part of Parkinson’s treatment for many people. However, it may not be effective for everyone and with advances in surgical techniques, neuro-imaging and computer technology over recent years, there has been renewed interest in surgery to try to replace and/or restore the cells that produce dopamine. Some surgical techniques can provide good symptom control for some people, but it is not suitable for everyone and must always be discussed fully with your doctor before any decisions are taken.

Quality of life

Physical symptoms can be treated through medical intervention and complementary therapy, but to maintain a quality of life, the emotional, psychological and intellectual wellbeing of the person with PD, as well as those caring for them, will need careful managing too.

Daily living

Parkinson’s can affect the way you carry out a broad range of everyday activities, from working and driving, to simply eating and brushing your teeth. By embracing some changes in your approach to activities and focusing on what you can do, you can maintain independence and continue many of your usual routines.

Carers

The role of carer can be a rewarding one but it can also be stressful and tiring at times. Understanding Parkinson’s and being aware of the choices you and the person you care for can make, will help you to manage a changing lifestyle and enable you to plan ahead and adapt more easily.

Knowing where you can turn to for the support you need, will help you to look after your own health and well-being, and is an important aspect of caring.

Coping strategies

As Parkinson's disease (PD) progresses, the effectiveness of medication decreases. Symptoms can re-emerge before it is time to take the next dose of medication (this is known as ‘wearing off’) or involuntary movements, like dyskinesia, can appear.

When these periods of wearing off occur, some people cannot move as freely as before. Many people with PD have discovered and developed strategies that help them maintain movement and improve mobility to overcome their personal obstacles.

The Coping Strategies website and accompanying CD-ROM aims to share these tips and tricks that people have developed to help themselves or their care, to manage those difficult situations caused by PD.
